During the 2008/9 season Johan Reuter sings Don Carlo, Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro and the world creation of 'Livlægens besøg' by Bo Holten in Copenhagen, Der fliegende Holländer in Berlin, Orest in Elektra in London, The Rake's progress in Madrid as well as concert performances of Das Rheingold and Siegfried in Budapest. In fall 2009 he will be perform his first Barak in Die Frau ohne Schatten conducted by Kazushi Ono and "Michelangelo songs" by Shotskowitch conducted by Marek Janowski, both in Berlin. In 2010 he will sing in a new production of Der fliegendne Holänder in Madrid, make his debut at Vienna Staatsoper as Madryka in Arabella and return to Covent Garden in Salome.
Johan Reuter studied at the Royal Academy of Music and at the Academy of the Royal Theatre of his home town. He frequented master classes of Ernst Haefliger, Anthony Rolfe Johnson and Richard Trimborn. Since 1996 he has been a soloist of the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen, where he, during the recent seasons, performed, among others; Mandryka, Tomsky in The Queen of Spades, the title roles in Mabeth and Simon Boccanegra and Wotan in Das Rheingold (released on DVD by Decca).
He sang Guglielmo in Cosè fan tutte, Kothner in a new Peter Konwitschny's production of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg and Leporello in Hamburg. He went on tour with the Deutsche Oper Berlin to Seoul singing the title role of in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro. He was also heard in Frankfurt as Don Giovanni; Paris in From the House of the Dead conducted by Mark Albrecht, a production which later travelled to Madrid and in Lisbon as Macbeth.
His debut at the Salzburg Festival came with the roles of Apollo/Grand Prêtre in Alceste under Ivor Bolton where he returned to sing in a new production of Mozart's Zaide. In 2006 he made his debut at London Royal Opera House Covent Garden in the title role of Wozzeck under the baton of Daniel Harding. Last year he created the role of Theseus in the world premiere of Harrison Birtwistle's Minotaur (released on DVD by Opus Arte).
Recent concert engagements include Haydn's "Schöpfung" under Philippe Herreweghe at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Mahler's 8th symphony under Valeri Gergiev in Rotterdam, Amsterdam and Brussels, Beethoven 9th symphony with Michael Hofstaetter at the Ludwigsburg Festival and under Zubin Mehta in Florence, Pisa and Perugia. At the Bregenz Festival he made his debut with Schumann's Lieder op.40 in an orchestra version and with Mahler's Rückert-Lieder under Michael Schønwandt, in Rotterdam and Amsterdam he sang the creation of an orchestra version of Brahms' Vier ernste Gesänge under Gergiev and at the BBC Proms in London with Marc Albrecht as well as in Athens and Thessaloniki, in Aarhus Mozart's Requiem, in Stockholm a world creation, in Lisbon Ein deutsches Requiem under Leopold Hager, Romeo et Juliette by Berlioz in Brussels conducted by Maestro Ono, Die Jahreszeiten conducted by Paul MacCreesh in Madrid, Peer Gynt at Salzburg Festival and in Ingolstadt (Minkowski).
Johan Reuter recorded Kunzen's Holger Danske (Grammy Awards nomination), Nielsen's Maskarade under Ulf Schirmer (Gramophone Award), songs with orchestra by Delius C. E. F. Weyse's Sovedrikken and Mozart's La Clemenza di Tito. He also recorded Schubert's Winterreise in Danish. His critically acclaimed album of early Verdi arias - Rare Verdi was released by MSM. His latest disc of Strauss' lieder has just been released.
