David Giménez Carreras
Born in Barcelona, David Giménez Carreras studied at the Conservatori del Liceu, Barcelona, at the Hochschule für Musik, Vienna, and at the Royal Academy of Music, London. Since making his début with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra in July 1994, he has conducted worldwide prominent vocal and instrumental soloists on the podiums of Royal Albert Hall, Salle Pleyel, Konzerthaus in Vienna, Philharmonic in Berlin, the Atheneum in Bucharest, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, and at both New York's Carnegie Hall, and Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center. In 2006, Maestro Giménez Carreras was appointed the Music Director of the Orquesta Simfònica del Vallès that holds an important position on the Catalan music scene. He has also conducted the Vienna Philharmonic, Zurich Tonhalle, Orchestre de Paris, Munich Rundfunks, New Japan Philharmonic, the Barcelona Symphony and other prestigious orchestras such as the London Symphony, Hamburg Symphony, Chicago Symphony, Orchestra of St. Luke's, and the Orchestra of Covent Garden.
Opera is understandably an important part of the Maestro Giménez Carreras' performance schedule. He has conducted at the Vienna Staatsoper, Zurich Opera, Berlin Deutsche Oper, Stuttgart Opera, Barcelona's Gran Teatre del Liceu, Madrid's Teatro Real as well as in cities such as Las Palmas, Santander, Maó, Tel Aviv, Tokyo, Washington, Baltimore, Portland and New Orleans. With an exceptional understanding of voice, the maestro has collaborated with such opera luminaries as Roberto Alagna, Angela Gheorghiu, Agnes Baltsa, Plácido Domingo, José Carreras, Juan Pons and Bryn Terfel. His recordings include works for Koch-Schwann, Erato, Discmedi and RCA Victor/BMG Classics.
